New York: The foreign ministers of Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Turkiye met in New York on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly to advance cooperation within the Makkah Joint Defense Agreement (MJDA). The meeting focused on the establishment of a General Secretariat and various committees, as well as preparations for their operational commencement.
According to Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during the discussions, the ministers condemned the recent attacks on Makkah and other civilian and economic sites in Saudi Arabia. They praised the Saudi Armed Forces for their defensive efforts and affirmed Saudi Arabia’s right to self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter. Plans for an urgent meeting of the countries’ chiefs of staff were also discussed, highlighting the MJDA’s collective defense clause.
The ministers addressed regional issues, emphasizing adherence to international law, respect for sovereignty, and non-interference in internal affairs. They reiterated their commitment to regional peace and stability, advocating for de-escalation and peaceful crisis resolution.
