First Transshipment Cargo Vessel M.V. ERLIN Berths at Karachi Port Trust

Karachi: In a significant development for Pakistan’s maritime sector, Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry announced the successful berthing of the first-ever fully transshipment cargo vessel, M.V. ERLIN, at the KGTML terminal of the Karachi Port Trust.

According to Press Information Department, this milestone marks a shift from the port’s previous operations, which primarily involved container transshipment. The M.V. ERLIN’s operation as a transshipment carrier for general cargo, break bulk, and vehicles represents an expansion in the port’s capabilities.

Minister Junaid Chaudhry emphasized the importance of this development, noting that it is a result of recent maritime reforms aimed at boosting efficiency and trade competitiveness. He stated that Pakistani ports are now fully equipped to handle all types of transshipment and transit trade cargo for regional destinations, including break bulk operations.

The minister highlighted that this achievement enhances Pakistan’s standing as a key regional maritime hub, connecting global trade routes and fostering economic partnerships.
