ISTANBUL: Türkiye’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hakan Fidan, announced today that the newly established Makkah Defence Alliance, a tripartite agreement among Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Türkiye, will have its first Secretary General hailing from Pakistan. The announcement was made during a media briefing in Istanbul.
According to Radio Pakistan, Fidan detailed that the secretariat for the alliance will be set up in Riyadh. He outlined the alliance’s objectives, which include the promotion of regional peace, security, stability, and prosperity. The Makkah Defence Alliance will operate under the principles of defence and international law, emphasizing respect for sovereignty and non-interference in domestic affairs.
Fidan also made it clear that the alliance is not designed to target any specific state and is open to participation by friendly countries that share its guiding principles. He noted that the Makkah Defence Alliance serves as a complement to other existing alliances involving its member countries, demonstrating their shared commitment to maintaining peace and security in the region.
