Srinagar, A significant fire outbreak has caused damage to one of the oldest mosques in the Kargil district of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, just hours before the commencement of the night prayers for ‘Shab-e-Barat’.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the incident occurred at the Balti Bazar mosque, a historic site within the Ladakh region, on Sunday evening. The fire rapidly spread throughout the mosque’s structure. Emergency response teams, including fire tenders, were quickly mobilized to the scene. Their efforts successfully contained the fire within three hours, averting potential harm to adjacent buildings such as the ‘Imam Barah’ and several residential properties.
Initial investigations by police suggest that the fire might have been ignited by candles lit inside the mosque as part of preparations for ‘Shab-e-Barat’, a night marked by prayers and reflection in the Islamic faith. The event underscores the need for cautious handling of fire sources in historic and religious structures, particularly during significant religious observances.
