Islamabad: Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, led a meeting to assess the progress of the Federal Board of Revenue’s National Faceless Centre. This initiative, part of a new Tax Operating Model, seeks to create a centralized, technology-driven framework for tax administration aimed at enhancing transparency.
According to Press Information Department, the meeting included a comprehensive briefing on the implementation roadmap, covering the establishment of the Project Management Unit, governance frameworks, technology development, and phased rollout strategies. Key milestones for the pre-pilot, pilot, and implementation phases were discussed to ensure the timely execution of the project.
Senator Aurangzeb highlighted the significance of the Project Management Unit’s progress and stressed the importance of effective coordination between operational and technology teams for successful implementation. The National Faceless Centre aims to modernize tax administration through digitalization and standardization, enhancing transparency.
Discussions also centered on the governance framework for the new operating model, including project oversight, risk management, and implementation monitoring. The development of a risk engine and rules-based case selection for the faceless system was also reviewed.
The Finance Minister emphasized the necessity of a well-designed pilot phase to test the new model before it is rolled out nationwide. He stressed the importance of ensuring operational readiness and addressing challenges early to facilitate a smooth transition.
Technology development, business requirements, digital infrastructure, and system integration were also discussed. The meeting was informed of an agile implementation approach, allowing for continuous collaboration between business and technology teams.
Senator Aurangzeb underscored the importance of information security and data governance, calling for ongoing investment in cybersecurity to protect taxpayer information and ensure the sustainability of the new system. Regular progress reviews were also urged to keep the project on schedule and address any emerging challenges.
The meeting included attendance from senior officials, including the CEO of Pakistan Revenue Automation Limited and various directors from the Project Management Unit, alongside officials from the Finance Division.
