Islamabad: Sweden has pledged support for Pakistan’s involvement in global efforts to combat antimicrobial resistance and has agreed to expand bilateral cooperation in agriculture. This development emerged from a high-level meeting between Pakistan’s Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research, Rana Tanveer Hussain, and the Swedish Ambassador to Pakistan, Alexandra Berg von Linde.

According to Press Information Department, the meeting underscored the mutual commitment of both nations to transform their longstanding friendly relations into a practical partnership within the agricultural sector. The discussions focused on enhancing collaboration through research partnerships, technical exchanges, and institutional linkages, aimed at modernizing Pakistan’s agriculture and strengthening food security and safety.

The Swedish Ambassador encouraged Pakistan to pursue membership in the Global Leaders Group on Antimicrobial Resistance, recognizing the country’s efforts to address this global challenge. The Federal Minister confirmed Pakistan’s intent to initiate the necessary nomination process and emphasized the importance of a coordinated national response to antimicrobial resistance.

Both sides agreed on the significance of the One Health approach, which encompasses human health, animal health, and environmental considerations. The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to deepen cooperation through sustained dialogue, investment, and expertise exchange, with the objective of fostering agricultural modernization and strengthening bilateral relations.
