Finance Minister Emphasizes Pakistan’s Commitment to Export-Led Growth and Structural Reforms

ISLAMABAD: Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb affirmed the government’s focus on export-led growth and structural reforms during a meeting with the United States Chargé d’Affaires to Pakistan, Natalie Baker. The discussions highlighted Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening institutional frameworks and encouraging foreign investment.

According to Radio Pakistan, the Finance Minister acknowledged the constructive role of US partners in enhancing the business environment and facilitating investment in the country. He briefed Baker on ongoing efforts to address energy sector challenges, including procurement and pricing mechanisms, while ensuring that subsidies are directed towards vulnerable segments like small farmers and public transport users.

The dialogue also covered Pakistan’s engagement with international financial institutions and development partners, emphasizing the importance of maintaining reform momentum under the IMF programme. Aurangzeb reiterated the government’s commitment to fiscal discipline, seeking flexibility amid global and regional challenges.

Natalie Baker praised the positive trajectory of US-Pakistan relations and expressed continued US support for Pakistan’s economic reform efforts. She highlighted the US interest in promoting investment in sectors such as energy, mining, technology, and logistics. Both parties discussed opportunities for increasing investment flows and participation in international forums like the SelectUSA Investment Summit.
