Finance Minister Calls for Coordinated Global Response at G-24 Meeting


Washington, D.C.: Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, participated in the G-24 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors’ Meeting at the World Bank-IMF Spring Meetings 2026, emphasizing the need for a unified global approach to address ongoing economic challenges.



According to Press Information Department, Senator Aurangzeb, as First Vice Chair of the G-24, highlighted persistent global economic pressures stemming from recent geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. These tensions have resulted in a major supply shock impacting energy markets, fertilizers, and broader financial conditions. He called for de-escalation efforts and safeguarding of critical maritime and energy corridors to restore stability.



The Finance Minister expressed Pakistan’s support for the review of IMF program design and conditionality, advocating for the preservation of macroeconomic stability while allowing flexibility to address risks and promote growth and employment. He also stressed the importance of reviewing IMF surcharges, which he deemed crucial for developing economies.



Senator Aurangzeb emphasized the importance of deepening collaboration with the World Bank in areas such as job-intensive investment, infrastructure development, and innovative financing solutions to foster sustainable growth. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s dedication to resilience, inclusion, and shared prosperity, urging for enhanced global cooperation to tackle emerging economic issues effectively.
