Federal Minister Engr Amir Muqam Briefed on Recent Rain and Landslide Impacts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Islamabad, Federal Minister for States and Frontier Regions, and Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan, Engr Amir Muqam, received a detailed briefing from senior officials of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and the Provincial Disaster Management Authority Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (PDMA-KP) on the impacts of recent rains and landslides in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

According to Press Information Department, the briefing focused on the damages caused by the recent weather events and the ongoing rescue and relief operations in the affected areas. The minister was informed about the extent of damage, human casualties, and the distribution of assistance funds by the NDMA and PDMA.

Engr Amir Muqam stated that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was the most impacted province due to recent rains and landslides, with significant losses in terms of human lives. He assured that the federal government would support the victims during this difficult time. The minister expressed solidarity and sympathy with those affected and pledged every possible assistance and support.

The briefing highlighted that heavy rains and landslides caused damage in several districts, including Shangla, Swat, Bajaur, Buner, Batagram, Mansehra, Mohmand, Malakand, Karak, Tank, Mardan, Peshawar, Nowshera, Bannu, North and South Waziristan, Kohat, and Orakzai. Engr Amir Muqam emphasized the need for compensation for the deceased and better treatment facilities for the injured.

The official briefing revealed that 33 children and 15 women were among those killed, while 17 women, 37 men, and 24 children were among the injured. A total of 3,202 houses were damaged due to collapsed walls and roofs in different districts, with 477 houses completely damaged and 2,725 partially damaged.

The federal minister’s briefing underscored the significant impact of the recent weather events in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the need for continued support and relief efforts for those affected. The meeting also highlighted the importance of disaster preparedness and effective response to minimize losses in future incidents.
