Federal Minister Emphasizes Youth’s Role in Transforming Pakistan’s Economy

Islamabad: Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives, Ahsan Iqbal, highlighted the crucial role of youth in Pakistan’s development, asserting that their active engagement is essential for the country’s future planning. Speaking at a ceremony at Quaid-i-Azam University, Iqbal emphasized that the decisions made today will primarily benefit future generations.

According to Press Information Department, Iqbal underscored the Bano Shaheen Programme’s potential to empower young people to not only identify problems but also develop practical solutions, playing a vital role in national development. The initiative, which now encompasses 1,700 teams and 50 chapters at Quaid-i-Azam University alone, aims to instill confidence and action-oriented mindsets in the youth, drawing inspiration from Allama Iqbal’s Shaheen.

The Ministry of Planning has expanded the Bano Shaheen chapters to over 165 universities nationwide, aiming to integrate young perspectives into national policymaking. Iqbal stressed that achieving the goal of transforming Pakistan into a $3 trillion economy by 2047 hinges on the younger generation’s involvement in the development process.

Addressing the need for a conducive environment and effective policy implementation, Iqbal cited Vietnam’s export growth as a benchmark. He noted that talent and resources are only part of the equation for national development, with continuity and sound policies being critical.

In addition to economic goals, the minister highlighted the urgency of addressing educational challenges, including the need to reintegrate 25 million out-of-school children and tackle child malnutrition. Initiatives such as scholarships for students from underprivileged regions and technology distribution were cited as steps to empower youth and integrate marginalized areas into the national framework.

Iqbal also warned of the dangers posed by misinformation in the digital age, urging young people to engage in responsible communication and critical thinking. He called on the youth to embrace hope, solutions, and national service to guide Pakistan toward economic stability and prosperity.
