Islamabad: Federal Minister for Law and Justice and Human Rights Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar has called for the international community’s attention on the Kashmir dispute, underscoring the importance of resolving the issue in line with United Nations Security Council resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people. The minister’s remarks came in a message on Kashmir Black Day, highlighting the ongoing tensions and human rights concerns in the region.
According to Press Information Department, Senator Tarar emphasized the fundamental right of the Kashmiri people to determine their own future, noting that the denial of this right impedes peace and stability in the region. He reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to providing moral, political, and diplomatic support to the Kashmiri people in their quest for self-determination.
The minister also expressed concern over the human rights situation in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir, citing reports of arbitrary arrests, illegal detention, and restrictions on freedoms. He called for urgent international attention to these issues, advocating for transparent investigations and accountability for human rights violations.
Senator Tarar criticized India’s unilateral actions on August 5, 2019, which he claimed aimed to change the demographic composition of the region. He urged the global community and the United Nations to play a proactive role in protecting human rights and ensuring that the Kashmiri people can exercise their fundamental rights.
Highlighting the link between regional peace and the resolution of the Kashmir dispute, the minister reiterated Pakistan’s support for a settlement that aligns with the Kashmiri people’s aspirations and their right to self-determination.
