Islamabad: Federal Minister for National Heritage and Culture, Aurangzeb Khan Khichi, has announced the establishment of an educational museum at Government Graduate College Asghar Mall, Rawalpindi. The project, aimed at preserving Pakistan’s educational and cultural heritage, will be a collaborative effort between the Department of Archaeology and Museums and the college administration.

According to Press Information Department, the announcement was made during a ceremony to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Department of Archaeology and Museums, National Heritage and Culture Division, Government of Pakistan, and Government Graduate College Asghar Mall. The Federal Minister, present as the chief guest, highlighted the agreement as an important step in safeguarding an academic heritage site.

Aurangzeb Khan Khichi emphasized the government’s commitment to establishing the museum as a center for learning, research, and heritage awareness. He stated that educational institutions with historical significance should be preserved as centers of learning and national history. The MoU outlines collaboration to promote awareness of cultural, historical, and archaeological heritage among students, offering academic exposure in museology and conservation.

The museum is set to showcase artifacts, archival material, and exhibits related to the college’s history and traditions. The Department of Archaeology and Museums will provide expertise in establishing and managing the museum, while the college will allocate space and support related activities. Director General DOAM Mr. Amanullah Khan expressed that the initiative will transform the college into a model for heritage education, serving as an educational and research resource to inspire heritage protection.

The agreement, signed for an initial period of five years, underscores a commitment to preserving historical assets, promoting heritage education, and enhancing public awareness of Pakistan’s cultural legacy.
