Islamabad: The Ambassador of Spain to Pakistan, Mr. Carlos Aragón, met with Dr. Musadik Malik, Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, to discuss significant regional and global issues, including climate change impacts, energy security, and bilateral cooperation in sustainable development.

According to Press Information Department, the meeting covered a wide array of topics, from the implications of recent geopolitical developments on the Indus Waters Treaty to the growing trend of unilateralism in international agreements. Dr. Malik emphasized the concerns raised by the potential unilateral suspension of such treaties and its implications for international cooperation.

Climate change impacts, particularly the devastation from recent floods in Pakistan, were central to the discussion. Dr. Malik stressed the need for enhanced preparedness and preventive measures to mitigate future risks brought on by changing weather patterns and climate variability.

Ambassador Aragón shared insights from his recent visit to Gilgit-Baltistan, praising the area’s natural beauty and cultural diversity. The conversation also addressed energy security and the transition to renewable energy, underscoring the urgency of adopting solar and wind power to counteract vulnerabilities in traditional energy supply chains amid geopolitical tensions.

The dialogue further explored potential collaboration on Pakistan’s Green University and Green Fields initiatives, aimed at advancing climate education and supporting green ventures. Both parties discussed opportunities for cooperation and knowledge exchange to bolster these initiatives.
