Islamabad: Federal Minister for National Heritage and Culture, Aurangzeb Khan Khichi, met with the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Secretary-General, Nurlan Yermekbayev, to discuss enhancing cultural cooperation and Pakistan’s upcoming role as SCO Chair. The meeting emphasized the significance of cultural diplomacy in fostering regional harmony and outlined plans for cultural events in Pakistan, including the proposal to designate Lahore as the SCO Tourism and Cultural Capital for 2026-27.

According to Press Information Department, Khichi reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to the SCO’s objectives, highlighting the country’s rich cultural heritage. He proposed initiatives such as an SCO Museum Cooperation Network and an SCO Youth Cultural Exchange Programme. The Secretary-General expressed support for Pakistan’s preparations and suggested organizing cultural forums under the SCO framework, emphasizing enhanced tourism cooperation.

The meeting underscored a shared commitment to preserving regional cultural heritage and promoting partnerships among SCO Member States. Both parties agreed on maintaining close coordination for the successful implementation of cultural initiatives during Pakistan’s forthcoming Chairmanship.
