Islamabad: The federal government announced a reduction in petrol and diesel prices by Rs22 per litre, offering it as an Eid gift to the populace on the third day of Eid-ul-Azha. The price cut aims to provide relief amid challenging economic times.

According to Radio Pakistan, a statement from the Prime Minister’s Oaffice on Friday highlighted Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif’s commitment to reducing fuel prices as soon as fiscal space allowed. This move aligns with his priority of alleviating the financial burden on citizens. The government had previously lowered petroleum prices last week to further support the public.

The statement emphasized that the government is committed to providing relief even in difficult circumstances, extending fuel subsidies to public transport users, motorcyclists, and rickshaw drivers. It noted that while some neighboring countries are facing fuel shortages, timely actions by the Prime Minister have ensured uninterrupted fuel availability in Pakistan.

Despite the recent global oil crisis causing a sharp rise in international oil prices, the statement added, the Prime Minister has managed to offer significant subsidies to prevent domestic price hikes, thus ensuring continued relief for the population.
