FBR and FMU Strengthen Collaboration to Tackle Illicit Finance in Pakistan

Islamabad, The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and the Financial Monitoring Unit (FMU) have reaffirmed their commitment to enhance collaboration to combat illicit finance, particularly in the realm of tax evasion. This announcement was made during the concluding ceremony of a joint workshop focusing on financial intelligence for tax evasion.

According to Press Information Department, the workshop, held on January 27-28, 2024 at the FBR headquarters, was part of the FCDO’s UPSCALE Programme. Chairman FBR, Malik Amjed Zubair Tiwana, highlighted the importance of sustained collaboration between FBR and FMU in developing quality financial intelligence and its optimal use in investigations. He congratulated the Directorate General of Intelligence and Investigation-Inland Revenue and the FMU for organizing the successful event and expressed gratitude to Mr. Lewis Evans of the British High Commission for his assistance.

Ms. Lubna Farooq, Director General of FMU, thanked the FBR and FCDO, emphasizing the need for continuous coordination to enhance the knowledge base and mutual understanding in the fight against tax fraud and evasion. She remarked that such a collaborative approach would bolster the effectiveness of investigations and contribute to a stronger, more interconnected framework for combating financial crimes.

The workshop, which was attended by analysts of FMU and investigating officers from the Directorate General of Intelligence and Investigation-Inland Revenue, focused on identifying and understanding risk areas in financial intelligence related to tax crimes. This initiative marks a significant step in the joint effort to tackle illicit finance more effectively in Pakistan.
