Islamabad: Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir People’s Freedom League, Muhammad Farooq Rehmani, has criticized the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for its statements on the freedom fighters of 13 July 1931, a key event in Kashmir’s history.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Rehmani condemned the BJP’s attempt to alter the historical narrative, describing the move as both “ridiculous and hateful.” He urged not only the residents of Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, and Baltistan but also those in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) to oppose the BJP’s remarks.
Rehmani accused the BJP, linked to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), of fostering communal discord and fascism. He alleged that the party’s governance is marked by violence against Muslims and other minorities in India.
He further accused the RSS-supported BJP government of manipulating historical facts for communal and religious reasons to maintain control over Jammu and Kashmir. Rehmani highlighted measures such as enacting biased laws, renaming cities, and removing 13 July as a national holiday in IIOJK as part of this alleged campaign.
