Farooq Abdullah Urges Modi to Engage with Pakistan on Kashmir to Prevent ‘Gaza-like’ Situation

Karachi, National Conference President Farooq Abdullah has called on Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to initiate dialogue with Pakistan to peacefully resolve the Kashmir dispute and prevent Jammu and Kashmir from becoming another Gaza. Abdullah criticized the Modi-led government for its reluctance to engage in talks with Pakistan on the issue.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Farooq Abdullah, speaking to reporters in Srinagar, emphasized the urgency of dialogue, warning that the lack of it could lead to a situation akin to Gaza. He referenced former Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s statement on India-Pakistan relations, highlighting the inevitability of coexistence and cooperation with neighbors.

Abdullah pointed out Modi’s own assertion that war is not an option and matters should be resolved through dialogue, questioning the absence of such discussions. He brought attention to statements from Pakistani politicians like Nawaz Sharif, expressing their readiness for dialogue on Jammu and Kashmir, and questioned India’s reluctance to engage in talks.

He warned of dire consequences, akin to the situation in Gaza and Palestine, if a peaceful solution is not sought through dialogue. Abdullah also dismissed claims by the ruling BJP of normalcy in Jammu and Kashmir since the revocation of its special status in 2019, implying that the situation is far from resolved.

The National Conference President’s statements underscore the complex and ongoing nature of the Kashmir issue, highlighting the need for diplomatic engagement and dialogue between India and Pakistan.
