Ethiopian Envoy Meets Pakistani Minister to Discuss Investment Opportunities

Islamabad: The Ambassador of Ethiopia to Pakistan, Dr. Oumer Hussein Oba, met with Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Board of Investment, Mr. Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh, in Islamabad to discuss enhancing bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, and economic sectors. The meeting underscored the mutual interest in expanding ties between the two countries, focusing on areas such as agriculture, livestock exports, and hydropower generation.

According to Press Information Department, the Ethiopian Ambassador praised the cultural hospitality of Pakistan and highlighted Ethiopia’s economic opportunities, including its vast population and sectors poised for growth. He mentioned Ethiopia’s prominence in agriculture, its role as a major exporter of livestock to the Middle East, and its capacity for generating cost-effective electricity through hydropower. The success of Ethiopian Airlines, which operates from Karachi and is considering expanding its cargo services, was also noted.

Both parties discussed the potential for investment in Pakistan’s agriculture, minerals, and information technology sectors. The Federal Minister elaborated on Pakistan’s Special Economic Zones and tax incentives designed to attract foreign investors, as well as ongoing regulatory reforms to enhance the business environment. The meeting concluded with mutual invitations to visit each other’s countries to further strengthen cultural and economic ties.
