Finance Minister and PBOC President Discuss Financial Cooperation at World Bank-IMF Meetings


Washington, D.C.: In a meeting on the sidelines of the World Bank-IMF Spring Meetings 2026, Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, engaged in discussions with Dr. Pan Gongsheng, President of the People’s Bank of China (PBOC), focusing on financial cooperation and market access.



According to Press Information Department, the Finance Minister expressed appreciation for China’s support of Pakistan at the International Monetary Fund (IMF), particularly within the IMF Executive Board. Senator Aurangzeb informed Dr. Pan about Pakistan’s successful conclusion of a Staff-Level Agreement with the IMF for the third review under the Extended Fund Facility (EFF) and the second review under the Resilience and Sustainability Facility (RSF), with the expectation of imminent approval by the IMF Executive Board.



The Finance Minister also discussed Pakistan’s plans for its inaugural Panda bond issuance, requesting expedited approval from the National Association of Financial Market Institutional Investors (NAFMII). Additionally, he updated Dr. Pan on Pakistan’s recent fulfillment of Eurobond repayment obligations and the receipt of financial assistance from Saudi Arabia.



Senator Aurangzeb addressed the economic impact of ongoing regional conflict, mentioning that the Government has implemented targeted subsidies and demand management measures to alleviate its effects. The meeting concluded with Dr. Pan extending an invitation to the Finance Minister to visit Beijing in the near future.
