Tehran: An event marking the seventh anniversary of India’s action on August 5, 2019, was held at the Embassy of Pakistan in Tehran. On this day, articles 35A and 370, which provided special autonomous status to Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJ&K), were abrogated, altering its legal and political identity.

According to Press Information Department, messages from Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and President Asif Ali Zardari were delivered during the event. A documentary showcasing alleged violations by the Indian government in IIOJ&K was presented. The event saw participation from Pakistani nationals, students, academics, and media representatives.

Iranian scholar Ms. Samaneh Khalafzadeh highlighted the Kashmiri struggle and quoted Ayatullah Khamenai’s support for their self-determination. She emphasized the importance of addressing human rights violations in IIOJ&K through UN resolutions.

Hurriyat leader Syed Faiz Naqashbandi, in a video message, discussed the situation following the constitutional changes, noting demographic shifts and media law alterations. He reiterated the demand for UN resolution implementation.

Ambassador Imran Ahmed Siddiqui remarked on the historical context of the situation, referencing UN Security Council resolutions. He stated that India’s actions threaten regional peace and legal order, citing concerns over the Indus Waters Treaty. Pakistan, he affirmed, remains committed to supporting the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination.
