Islamabad, In accordance with Section 182 of the Elections Act, 2017, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has mandated a cessation of all electoral campaigns starting today at noon, ahead of the bye-elections scheduled for April 21, 2024. This directive affects all political parties, candidates, and supporters currently engaged in the electoral process.
According to Election Commission of Pakistan, from 12:00 PM today, April 19, organizing, participating in, or attending any public meetings, processions, corner meetings, or related political activities is strictly prohibited. The ECP emphasizes that strict legal action will be taken against individuals who violate this provision.
Additionally, the commission has outlined restrictions on media, prohibiting the publication of any political campaigns, advertisements, or other materials that could be perceived as supporting or opposing any political party or candidate through electronic or print media beyond the specified time.
The media is also instructed to withhold broadcasting election results until one hour after polling concludes, with a clear stipulation that these results are preliminary and unofficial.
This regulatory measure aims to ensure a fair and orderly conclusion to the campaigning period, leading up to a smooth conduct of the bye-elections.
