ISLAMABAD: Eight Muslim countries have issued a strong condemnation of Israel’s recent enactment of a law permitting the death penalty for Palestinians in the occupied West Bank. The Foreign Ministers of Pakistan, Turkiye, Egypt, Indonesia, Jordan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates jointly criticized the legislation, describing it as a discriminatory escalation that could destabilize the region.
According to Radio Pakistan, the joint statement from the Foreign Ministers highlighted concerns over the law’s discriminatory application against Palestinian prisoners and its potential to exacerbate tensions. The ministers warned that such measures could undermine regional stability and emphasized the importance of refraining from actions that could inflame tensions.
The statement also expressed concern over the conditions of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli detention, citing credible reports of ongoing abuses, including torture and denial of basic rights. The ministers described these practices as part of a broader pattern of violations against Palestinians.
Reaffirming their stance against Israel’s policies towards Palestinians, the Foreign Ministers called for international efforts to ensure accountability and uphold stability. They stressed the urgent need for measures to prevent further deterioration of the situation in the occupied territories.
