Diaspora’s Influence Vital in Global Advocacy for Kashmir, AJK President States

Islamabad: The President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Barrister Sultan Mahmood Chaudhry, has underscored the importance of elevating the Kashmir issue on the international stage, emphasizing the significant role played by the Kashmiri diaspora, particularly in the United Kingdom.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Barrister Sultan made these comments during a meeting with Lord Qurban Hussain, a member of the British House of Lords, at Kashmir House in Islamabad. He urged overseas Kashmiris to raise awareness at international forums, including the British Parliament, to highlight the Kashmir issue and the ongoing situation in occupied Kashmir.

Barrister Sultan Chaudhry noted that since August 5, 2019, there has been an escalation in the oppression faced by the people of Kashmir. He stated that many Kashmiris have been displaced and expressed concerns over India’s actions to alter the demographic composition by settling non-Kashmiri Hindus in the region.

Moreover, he detailed various human rights violations, including the killing of Kashmiri youth, the use of pellet guns leading to injuries among children and the elderly, and instances of sexual violence against women. He called upon the global Kashmiri community, particularly in the UK, to bring these issues to light and counter India’s actions.

Lord Qurban Hussain assured his commitment to advocating for the Kashmir issue on the global platform. He commended Barrister Sultan’s efforts and extended an invitation for him to visit the UK and address the British Parliament.
