DG Khan Airport Expansion to International Status Scheduled for 2028 Completion

Dera Ghazi Khan: Federal Minister for Energy (Power Division) Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari announced that the DG Khan Airport expansion project, aimed at facilitating international flights, has begun with an expected completion date of January 2028. The project, with an estimated cost of Rs. 5.5 billion, involves substantial upgrades including runway expansion, according to Press Information Department.

During his visit to inspect the ongoing work, the Minister reviewed the progress and emphasized the benefits of upgrading the airport, which include improved travel facilities for the local population and increased development opportunities for South Punjab. He noted the project is part of a broader initiative announced by the Prime Minister, which also includes a cancer hospital, a long-term sewerage project, and road network improvements.

The Minister addressed national electricity load management issues, noting that load shedding follows a strict schedule, influenced by increased power generation costs due to geopolitical factors. Measures are being introduced to reduce power theft and line losses, including the deployment of APMS systems on transformers to target electricity theft.

He reiterated that load shedding will persist on feeders with high AT&C losses and emphasized the government’s commitment to reforming the power distribution network. The development projects in DG Khan, he assured, will significantly improve regional infrastructure, healthcare, and connectivity.

The visit also included a briefing by the Civil Aviation Authority’s Project Director, a plantation campaign, and the presence of several political figures.
