Islamabad: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar has reaffirmed Pakistan’s dedication to the principles and purposes outlined in the United Nations Charter. Speaking at a talk by UN Secretary-General António Guterres, Dar emphasized the importance of upholding international law and implementing UN Security Council resolutions.
According to Radio Pakistan, the event, held at the Foreign Service Academy in Islamabad, focused on “Strengthening Multilateralism in a Changing World – Geopolitics and the Role of the United Nations.” Dar stated that multilateralism, with the UN at its center, is a fundamental component of Pakistan’s foreign policy. He also highlighted the need for diplomacy and peaceful resolutions to the Palestinian question and the Jammu and Kashmir dispute.
During his address, UN Secretary-General Guterres commended Pakistan for its generosity and resilience over his two decades of service to the United Nations. He addressed the interconnected global challenges, such as conflict, inequality, climate change, and artificial intelligence, and emphasized the need for stronger multilateral cooperation through a reformed and representative United Nations. Guterres expressed confidence in the Pakistani people’s spirit of dialogue and cooperation.
