Manila: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar expressed approval for the newly adopted Manila Plan of Action 2026-2036 during the 33rd ASEAN Regional Forum Ministerial Meeting in Manila, Philippines. He emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to the plan and the importance of collaboration to foster peace and resilience in the region.

According to Radio Pakistan, Dar reaffirmed Pakistan’s dedication to the ASEAN Regional Forum’s objectives and called for renewed collective efforts to ensure a future grounded in sovereign equality and dialogue. Commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia, he reiterated Pakistan’s alignment with the treaty’s core principles of dialogue and peaceful coexistence.

Discussing regional security, Dar highlighted the ASEAN Regional Forum’s role in navigating an increasingly complex strategic environment. He advocated for a dynamic and forward-looking approach to preventive diplomacy.

Addressing Middle East tensions, Dar noted the significant impact on regional stability and Pakistan’s efforts to restore peace. He acknowledged the trust placed in Pakistan by the United States, Iran, and Gulf countries to mediate these efforts, stressing the need for restraint and peaceful engagement to achieve lasting peace.

Dar also addressed the situation in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, emphasizing the unresolved disputes as a source of regional instability. He expressed concern over India’s actions regarding the Indus Waters Treaty, calling for international community involvement to uphold international law.

On counter-terrorism, Dar reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to combating terrorism, urging cooperation from regional partners and the Afghan Taliban regime to prevent Afghan territory from being used against neighbors. He called for ASEAN Regional Forum members’ support in maintaining regional peace and security.
