Islamabad: Deputy Chairman Senate Syedaal Khan Nasar, in a message on World Press Freedom Day, underscored the critical role of a free and responsible press in democratic societies. He emphasized the necessity of an independent media in ensuring accountability and keeping the public informed.
According to Senate of Pakistan, Nasar noted that May 3 serves as a reminder of the responsibility to uphold freedom of expression and the public’s right to information. He highlighted journalism’s role in promoting truth, transparency, and justice, amidst challenges like the spread of fake news and digital propaganda. Nasar called for adherence to professionalism and impartiality in journalism.
He paid tribute to Pakistani journalists for their dedication and sacrifices in delivering accurate information under challenging conditions, reaffirming Parliament’s commitment to ensuring their safety and professional independence. Nasar emphasized the state’s responsibility to safeguard freedom of expression as guaranteed by the Constitution of Pakistan.
