Islamabad: Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani has emphasized the significance of press freedom and freedom of expression on World Press Freedom Day, underscoring the day as a symbol of the global commitment to these ideals. He highlighted the role of journalists in promoting democratic values and acknowledged their sacrifices in the pursuit of truth.

According to Senate of Pakistan, Gilani stated that a free and empowered media is crucial for any democratic society, providing credible information and ensuring accountability. He noted that the day serves to raise awareness of the challenges faced by journalists, including professional pressures and security concerns.
