Delhi Authority Demolishes Home of Rescuer Rat Miner

New Delhi, The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has demolished the house of Wakil Hassan, the rat miner who played a crucial role in rescuing 41 workers trapped in Uttarakhand’s Silkyara tunnel last year. This action has raised concerns and prompted allegations of discrimination based on religious identity.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Hassan, who led the team of rat miners in the rescue operation and is also the head of Rockwell Enterprises, claimed his home in the Khajuri area of North East Delhi was targeted by the DDA without prior notice. The demolition has been met with astonishment and dismay, especially in light of Hassan’s notable contribution to the rescue mission, which had garnered him significant acclaim.

Hassan’s family was at home without him when the DDA officials arrived to carry out the demolition. His daughter, Aliza, recounted the officials’ aggressive behavior and the absence of a demolition notice. Hassan, upon returning and witnessing the destruction of his home, alleged that his residence was the only one demolished while others in the vicinity were left untouched.

Shabana, Hassan’s wife, interpreted the demolition as an act of discrimination, suggesting that if her husband had a different religious identity, the government’s response to his heroic act would have been more favorable. She believes that instead of receiving recognition or assistance, they faced adversity because of their Muslim identity.
