ISLAMABAD: Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif has declared that the federal government will prioritize the protection of Islamabad against any potential threats, emphasizing that any attempt to attack the capital will be met with firm resistance. According to Radio Pakistan, Asif addressed the media in Islamabad, where he stated that while the government is striving to avoid using force as a last resort, it remains committed to safeguarding the capital from those who periodically march on it.
Asif highlighted concerns over potential collaborations with the Taliban to attack the capital, asserting that the government has both the right and responsibility to protect Islamabad. He attributed the ongoing protests to political motives and the pursuit of political survival, which have led to heightened tensions.
Discussing the breakdown of negotiations, the Defence Minister expressed that efforts to create political instability or jeopardize Pakistan’s security and integrity are unacceptable. He noted that members of the negotiating team are working towards a solution that satisfies all parties involved and serves the national interest.
Asif also pointed out that some political entities appear to be more focused on safeguarding their positions and benefiting from federal resources, rather than seeking a resolution that aligns with the country’s broader interests.
