ISLAMABAD: A delegation of 29 Grade-18 civil servants, accompanied by four faculty members from the National Institute of Public Administration (NIPA) in Karachi, visited the Parliament House in Islamabad as part of the 47th Mid-Career Management Course. Upon arrival, they received a warm welcome from senior officials of the Senate Secretariat.

According to Senate of Pakistan, Secretary Senate Syed Hasnain Haider provided the delegation with an in-depth briefing on the constitutional role, powers, and legislative procedures of the Upper House. He highlighted the Senate’s role as a guardian of equal representation for all federating units, emphasizing its importance in promoting national cohesion and protecting the rights of smaller provinces.

Joint Secretary of the Senate Secretariat, Hammad Khan Marri, further elaborated on the Senate’s responsibilities, including its function in ensuring equal representation for all provinces and its role in legislative oversight, accountability, and public representation. He discussed the historical evolution of the Upper House and the significance of Senate Standing Committees.

The delegation actively participated in a question-and-answer session, where Secretary Senate Syed Hasnain Haider addressed their queries comprehensively. They also toured the Senate Museum, learning about Pakistan’s parliamentary history and visiting the Gali-e-Dastoor to explore constitutional exhibits.

The visit concluded with an exchange of shields as a gesture of goodwill and expressions of appreciation from the delegation for the Senate Secretariat’s efforts in promoting democratic values and transparency. The participants described the tour as highly informative and beneficial, thanking the Senate Secretariat for its hospitality and guidance.
