Karachi: A delegation from a Chinese construction company met with Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs, Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry, to explore investment opportunities, particularly in infrastructure projects like desalination at Port Qasim.

The six-member delegation, led by Mr. Wang Yaodong, expressed interest in collaborating on projects that include highway development and water supply initiatives. The minister praised China’s support in infrastructure and emphasized the untapped potential in Pakistan’s maritime sector. He encouraged the delegation to consider investment in maritime tourism and other ventures as part of the country’s economic diversification strategy.

A key focus of the discussion was the proposal for desalination plants at Port Qasim. The Chinese delegation showed strong interest in converting seawater into potable water, aiming to meet industrial and domestic needs in an area facing water scarcity. Mr. Wang stated the project aligns with Pakistan’s sustainable infrastructure goals and environmental objectives.

The minister assured the delegation of the government’s support for viable proposals and welcomed their willingness to conduct feasibility studies. Highway development was also discussed, with both parties reviewing potential collaborations to enhance connectivity between ports and economic zones. This initiative is expected to reduce logistical costs and improve trade flow.

The meeting concluded with a commitment to continue discussions and identify impactful projects, fostering long-term collaboration crucial to Pakistan’s economic development.
