Chairman Senate Lauds Zulfikar Ali Bhutto’s Contributions on 47th Death Anniversary


Islamabad: Chairman Senate, Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, has paid tribute to the late Zulfikar Ali Bhutto on the occasion of his 47th death anniversary, highlighting his significant role in fortifying Pakistan’s democratic, social, and defense structures.



According to Senate of Pakistan, Gilani praised Bhutto as a leader who institutionalized democracy and empowered the populace, underlining the importance of the 1973 Constitution, which remains pivotal to Pakistan’s democratic framework. Gilani noted Bhutto’s commitment to constitutional supremacy and his advocacy for underrepresented groups, including farmers, laborers, women, and marginalized communities.



Gilani acknowledged Bhutto’s forward-thinking policies that promoted self-reliance, economic growth, and social welfare, as well as his contributions to Pakistan’s defense through the initiation of the nuclear program. Bhutto’s foreign policy efforts, including hosting the Islamic Summit Conference, were recognized for enhancing the country’s global stature and fostering unity among Muslim nations.



The Chairman Senate also commended the late Benazir Bhutto for her role in advancing democracy and women’s rights and recognized former President Asif Ali Zardari’s efforts in reinforcing democratic traditions, particularly through the 18th Constitutional Amendment. He highlighted Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s ongoing work in promoting democratic values and public service as a young leader of the Pakistan Peoples Party.



In his concluding remarks, Gilani emphasized the need to uphold the ideals and vision of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, urging the nation to strive for a strong, prosperous Pakistan guided by the principles of the Constitution and democracy.
