Chairman Senate Emphasizes Global Role and Achievements of Pakistan Institute for Parliamentary Services

Islamabad: Chairman Senate of Pakistan Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani presided over a significant meeting of the Board of Governors of the Pakistan Institute for Parliamentary Services (PIPS) in Islamabad, underscoring the Institute’s international accomplishments and its contributions to parliamentary capacity building.

According to Press Information Department, the meeting included participation from notable figures such as Deputy Speaker National Assembly Syed Ghulam Mustafa Shah, Speaker Provincial Assembly of Balochistan Abdul Khaliq Khan, and others, with some joining via Zoom. Chairman Senate expressed appreciation for the contributions of past and current Board members and welcomed MNA Sher Ali Arbab as a new member.

Chairman Senate highlighted PIPS’s achievement of becoming a founding Steering Committee member of the Global Network of Parliamentary Training Institutes. He announced that PIPS will host the Second Global Conference of Parliamentary Training Institutes in 2027, signifying its international recognition.

The Chairman detailed PIPS’s activities since July 2025, including orientations and workshops for parliamentarians and officers, as well as research and technical assistance efforts. He noted the Institute’s engagement with civil society and emphasized its role in promoting democratic awareness.

He commended the Institute’s training programs for various provincial legislatures and its efforts in professional development under the National Parliamentary Development framework. Chairman Senate praised the Executive Director for enhancing training opportunities for officers and expressed confidence in PIPS’s future initiatives in strengthening parliamentary democracy.

The meeting concluded with discussions on agenda items and approval of the proposed budget and the annual report for 2024-25.
