Islamabad: Relations between Pakistan and Azerbaijan are deeply rooted in shared religious, cultural, and historical connections, Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani emphasized during a ceremony marking Azerbaijan’s Independence Day in Islamabad. The event, attended by Azerbaijani diplomats and Pakistani political leaders, underscored the long-standing ties and mutual support between the two nations.

According to Press Information Department, Chairman Gilani extended congratulations to Azerbaijan’s leadership and people on their Independence Day, highlighting that both countries have stood by each other in various circumstances. He noted Azerbaijan’s shared celebrations in Pakistan’s achievements against Indian aggression as an example of this unity.

The Chairman Senate discussed his meetings with Azerbaijan’s President and parliamentary leaders, where topics such as bilateral relations and international cooperation were addressed. He praised Azerbaijan’s architectural initiatives in Islamabad and the declaration of the current year as the “Year of Architecture.”

Chairman Gilani also highlighted the increased connectivity between the nations, with 11 weekly flights from Islamabad and Lahore to Azerbaijan, aimed at promoting tourism and enhancing trade relations. He mentioned the historic “Multani Caravanserai” in Baku as a testament to the centuries-old ties between the regions.

Concluding his address, Gilani reaffirmed Pakistan’s dedication to strengthening its relationship with Azerbaijan, promoting the enduring friendship between the two countries.
