Islamabad: Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik met with S. Paul Kapur, the U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs, to discuss expanding economic and energy cooperation between Pakistan and the United States. The meeting, which also included U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Natalie A. Baker, focused on enhancing bilateral relations, particularly in the energy sector.

According to Press Information Department, Mr. Kapur emphasized the longstanding importance of the U.S.-Pakistan relationship and highlighted the potential to build a stronger economic partnership. Minister Malik outlined ongoing reforms in Pakistan’s energy sector designed to improve efficiency and attract foreign investment. He noted opportunities for collaboration in areas such as port infrastructure, storage facilities, and refinery upgrades, and mentioned Pakistan’s recent import of six million barrels of crude from the United States.

Minister Malik also noted the close relationship between Pakistani and American leaderships, which he said provides a foundation for expanding cooperation in strategic sectors. Both parties agreed to explore further avenues for cooperation in petroleum and energy sectors, including capacity-building initiatives to enhance institutional and technical capabilities. The meeting concluded with a commitment to maintain close engagement and enhance bilateral cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
