Gilgit: The Chairman of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik, visited the Gilgit-Baltistan Disaster Management Authority (GBDMA) to evaluate the region’s preparedness for the ongoing monsoon season. The visit was conducted under the directives of the Prime Minister.

According to Press Information Department, the Chairman’s visit focused on assessing district-wise readiness, early warning systems, and the region’s rescue and relief capabilities. The discussions also highlighted evacuation plans and coordination mechanisms to tackle potential flash floods, glacial lake outburst floods (GLOFs), landslides, and riverine flooding in the vulnerable valleys of Gilgit-Baltistan.

The Chairman stressed the importance of timely implementation of contingency plans and the prepositioning of relief stocks. He urged the GBDMA to enhance community awareness in high-risk areas and to ensure seamless coordination with district administrations and other relevant stakeholders for an efficient response to any disaster.

In his remarks, Chairman NDMA expressed appreciation for the efforts of the GBDMA and reiterated the NDMA’s commitment to supporting the region in building resilience against hydro-meteorological hazards.
