Nyingchi: Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, Dr. Musadik Malik, addressed the 5th China Xizang Trans-Himalaya Forum for International Cooperation, emphasizing the need for collaborative efforts in sustainable development and ecological conservation across the region. The forum, held in the Xizang Autonomous Region of China, gathered policymakers and experts to discuss shared challenges facing mountain ecosystems.

According to Press Information Department, Dr. Malik highlighted the historical ties and ecological connections between Pakistan and China, underscoring the urgency of addressing climate change impacts on glaciers. He expressed gratitude to China for hosting the forum and acknowledged the longstanding friendship between the two nations. Dr. Malik noted the severe consequences of glacial melt, including floods and droughts, which have led to significant human and economic losses in Pakistan over the past fifteen years.

Dr. Malik stressed the importance of collective action and scientific cooperation to protect fragile ecosystems and proposed three initiatives to enhance regional collaboration. These include a Virtual Green University for joint research, a Green Fields platform for young entrepreneurs, and a Green Cloud for sharing publicly funded research. He urged participating countries to work together to safeguard glaciers, preserve shared ecosystems, and ensure sustainable development.
