Book Launch in Washington DC Calls for Kashmiri Self-Determination

Washington DC, A ceremony in Washington DC, hosted by the World Kashmir Awareness Forum (WKAF), the Kashmir Diaspora Coalition (KDC), and the Kashmir American Welfare Association (KAWA), marked the launch of Dr. Farhan Mujahid Chak’s new book, “Nuclear Flashpoint: War Over Kashmir.” The event, which saw all available copies of the book sold, highlighted the Kashmir issue and its global implications.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Ilyasah Shahbaz, educator and daughter of Malcolm X, highlighted in the foreword the severe human rights violations in Kashmir and the potential for a nuclear conflict. The book, published by Pluto Press, provides a detailed analysis of the Kashmir crisis, drawing attention to the atrocities faced by the people in the region and the threat it poses to global peace.

Dr. Ghulam Nabi Mir, President of WKAF, praised Dr. Chak’s work for challenging the Indian narrative on Kashmir and bringing to light the indigenous Kashmiri perspective. Dr. Ghulam Nabi Fai, WKAF Secretary General, expressed solidarity with the people of Jammu and Kashmir, emphasizing the book’s role in challenging the Indian government’s narrative.

Sardar Zarif Khan, the event’s main organizer, stressed the global Kashmiri Diaspora’s responsibility to present the Kashmiri narrative to the world. Dr. Chak criticized the Modi-led BJP government for its actions in Jammu and Kashmir, including human rights violations and suppression of opposition. He called on the international community to confront India’s actions and urged human rights groups in the US, UK, Canada, EU, and other countries to sanction the Indian regime for its violations of international law.

Dr. Chak demanded the immediate withdrawal of Indian military forces from Jammu and Kashmir and urged the provision of an opportunity for the people of Kashmir to exercise their right to self-determination, as stipulated in UN Security Council resolutions.

The event was attended by prominent figures, including Dr. Rashid Piracha, Senator Akbar Khawaja, Dr. Maqsood Chaudhry, Dr. Zulfiqar Kazmi, and others, who collectively supported the call for Kashmiri self-determination and the end of Indian military presence in the region.
