Bengaluru Lawyers Protest Against New Criminal Laws

Bengaluru: The legal community in Bengaluru organized a significant protest against three recently enacted criminal laws in India, arguing that these laws could undermine the constitutional framework and civil liberties.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the demonstration took place outside the City Civil Courts and was led by members from the Indian Association of Lawyers, the All India Lawyers Association for Justice, and the All India Lawyers Union. The protesting lawyers labeled the new laws as “black laws,” indicative of a shift towards outdated legal practices and a potential rise in authoritarian governance. They voiced concerns about increased detention periods without bail and the broad powers these laws could grant to the police, potentially leading to abuses and the suppression of dissent within the country.
