Rawalpindi: Parliamentary Secretary for Information and Broadcasting, Barrister Danyal Chaudhry, has inaugurated the reconstruction and modernization of the China Market-Gordon College Road transit corridor. The project, supported by a Rs 138.318 million provincial development grant, aims to enhance the infrastructure under the guidance of CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif.
According to Press Information Department, the project execution has been assigned to specialized engineering divisions within the Communication and Works (C&W) Department. This initiative is part of a broader urban development plan focusing on high-grade execution and accelerated completion timelines.
During the groundbreaking ceremony, organized by the local trader community, Barrister Danyal highlighted the project’s objectives. The reconstruction aims to alleviate long-standing traffic congestion, improve logistics for the commercial center, and enhance daily commutes for students attending nearby educational institutions. The project aligns with the provincial government’s strategy to prioritize urban road network enhancements for economic growth and student welfare. Similar infrastructure projects are concurrently underway across other key roads, including Rawal Road, 5th Road, and Railway Workshop Road.
The engineering blueprint involves rebuilding the sub-base to accommodate heavy commercial and public transit traffic. Additionally, integrated stormwater drainage channels are being installed to mitigate flooding risks during monsoon seasons across Liaquat Road, Naya Mohalla, and surrounding areas.
The ceremony concluded with Barrister Danyal Chaudhry, alongside senior engineers from the C&W Department, business leaders, and local residents, partaking in a ribbon-cutting walkthrough.
