ARUSHA: Bangladesh has been elected to the Executive Committee of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) after receiving crucial backing from Pakistan. The election took place during the 153rd IPU Assembly in Arusha, Tanzania.
According to Radio Pakistan, the support for Bangladesh’s candidature was extended during a meeting of the Asia-Pacific Group held on the sidelines of the assembly. Following the support, Jaharat Adib Chowdhury, the representative from Bangladesh, secured a majority of votes to earn a seat on the influential committee.
In a statement congratulating the Bangladeshi delegation, Chairman of the Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani expressed Pakistan’s eagerness to enhance parliamentary engagement with Bangladesh.
