Quetta: The Balochistan provincial cabinet, led by Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti, convened on Wednesday at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat to deliberate on a series of critical issues, including recent terrorist incidents and various developmental and governance reforms. The cabinet session culminated in the approval of several significant initiatives aimed at enhancing governance, economic development, and the welfare of the local populace.
According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Balochistan, the cabinet meeting began with a strong condemnation of the recent terror attacks in the region, and prayers were offered for the victims. Chief Minister Bugti reiterated his commitment to continuing governance reforms and underscored the necessity for all ministers and officials to actively engage with communities in the inner districts of Balochistan to address public grievances effectively.
A substantial part of the meeting focused on economic and educational development. The cabinet approved an e-commerce implementation plan designed to provide the youth, including women, with better access to both global and national markets. This move is expected to accelerate economic activities in the region. Additionally, the Chief Minister highlighted efforts to counter the influence of terrorist organizations on the youth by promoting education and sending students to prestigious institutions worldwide.
In terms of legal and administrative reforms, the cabinet approved the Code of Criminal Procedure Amendment Bill, which assigns magisterial powers to administrative officers. This amendment aims to curb inflation, enhance municipal services, and serve the public interest more effectively.
The meeting also addressed compensation for the Levies Force martyrs, development in the marine fisheries sector, and environmental conservation. Notably, the reorganization of the Pacific Fish Harbor was approved, and an endowment fund policy for the Fisheries Department was established to bolster resources for the welfare of fishermen. The cabinet also sanctioned the Marine Fisheries Patrolling Regulation 2023 to combat illegal trawling and approved measures to increase mangrove production in the Charna Island Marine Protected Area.
Chief Minister Bugti stressed the importance of all cabinet members being well-prepared and punctual for meetings to ensure efficient governance. He emphasized that the overarching goal of these decisions is to improve the living standards of the people of Balochistan.
