Srinagar: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) has paid tribute to the victims of the Zakura and Tengpora massacres on their 35th anniversary, reaffirming the commitment of the Kashmiri people to continue their struggle for freedom.
According to a statement by Kashmir Media Service, on March 1, 1990, Indian troops opened fire on peaceful protesters in the Zakura and Tengpora areas of Srinagar, resulting in the deaths of over 50 Kashmiris and injuring dozens more.
APHC spokesperson, Advocate Abdul Rashid Minhas, in a statement issued in Srinagar, condemned the massacre as part of what he described as a systematic campaign of genocide in the region, aimed at terrorizing the local population and suppressing their quest for self-determination.
Minhas noted that 35 years have passed since the incident, yet the families of the victims are still awaiting justice. He emphasized that the memories of these events remain vivid in the hearts of Kashmiris, serving as a reminder of the ongoing struggle in the region.
