Srinagar, Masarrat Aalam Butt, the incarcerated Chairman of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC), has declared that the struggle of Kashmiris for their right to self-determination is rooted in principles of truth and justice, and that India’s military efforts cannot suppress it.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Masarrat Aalam Butt stated that the Kashmir dispute remains an unresolved issue from the partition of the Indian subcontinent in 1947. He emphasized that lasting peace in both the region and the world hinges on resolving this dispute in accordance with United Nations Security Council resolutions.
The APHC Chairman called on the United Nations to pressure India to halt its state-sponsored terrorism in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) and to recognize the Kashmiri people’s inherent right to self-determination. He reaffirmed the determination of Kashmiris to continue their freedom movement until its logical conclusion, noting that a movement grounded in historical facts, universal legitimacy, and international moral and political support is destined to succeed despite India’s oppressive tactics.
Masarrat Aalam Butt also expressed deep concern about the worsening human rights situation in IIOJK and stressed the need for an early resolution of the Kashmir dispute in line with UN resolutions. He urged the UN to acknowledge the use of excessive force by India against the people of IIOJK, who are legitimately demanding their right to self-determination, and to pressure New Delhi to cease arbitrary arrests and other severe human rights abuses in the territory.
This statement from the APHC Chairman underscores the ongoing conflict in Kashmir and the international dimension of the region’s struggle for self-determination and human rights.
