Dhaka: Ambassador Imran Haider of Pakistan presented his Letter of Credence to King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck of Bhutan at a ceremony in Thimphu’s Dechenchholing Palace. The presentation marked a step in strengthening diplomatic ties between the two countries.

According to Press Information Department, King Wangchuck welcomed Ambassador Haider and extended his best wishes to Pakistan’s leadership and its people. Ambassador Haider reciprocated by delivering greetings from Pakistan’s President and Prime Minister, reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to fostering friendly relations with Bhutan.

Later, Ambassador Haider met with Bhutan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Lyonpo D.N. Dhungyel. The Minister congratulated him on his appointment and expressed hopes for successful diplomatic engagements. Both sides acknowledged the cordial relations between their countries, grounded in mutual respect and shared cultural heritage, and agreed to continue their constructive engagement, which began with the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1988.

The discussions between Ambassador Haider and Minister Dhungyel also explored avenues for cooperation in trade, climate change, disaster management, parliamentary exchanges, and within the framework of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC).

A reception hosted by the Minister in the evening saw attendance from Bhutan’s Officiating Prime Minister, cabinet members, and senior officials. Ambassador Haider expressed gratitude for the hospitality extended to him and his delegation. He serves as Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Bangladesh and as non-resident Ambassador to Bhutan.
