AJK Prime Minister Calls on UN to Address Kashmir Dispute for Regional Peace

Muzaffarabad, Chaudhry Anwar-ul-Haq, the Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, has made a compelling appeal to the United Nations to actively engage in resolving the protracted Kashmir dispute, emphasizing that a settlement is essential for the establishment of lasting peace in the region.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Anwar-ul-Haq articulated his concerns in Muzaffarabad, highlighting the necessity for the UN to enforce its resolutions on Kashmir. This would enable the people of Jammu and Kashmir to exercise their right to self-determination and shape their political destiny. His statement comes in the wake of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to occupied Jammu and Kashmir, which Anwar-ul-Haq criticized as an attempt by India to divert international attention from the core issue through misleading narratives.

The AJK Prime Minister underscored the disputed status of Kashmir, stating that India’s unilateral actions, particularly the controversial move on August 5th, stand as stark instances of authoritarianism. He stressed that such measures cannot alter the internationally recognized disputed nature of Kashmir.

Anwar-ul-Haq also defended the Kashmiri people’s struggle for freedom as a legitimate expression of political aspiration, urging global recognition and support for their non-violent resistance. He called upon international human rights organizations to duly acknowledge and publicize the hardships faced by Kashmiris under Indian rule.

Praising the determination and sacrifices of the Kashmiri people, the Prime Minister expressed optimism about their eventual success in achieving independence. His call to the United Nations to intervene reflects a broader desire for international involvement to facilitate a peaceful resolution to the Kashmir conflict.
