Ahsan Iqbal Chairs Meeting on Neelum Jhelum Hydropower Project’s Restoration

Islamabad: Federal Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal led a meeting on Friday to assess the restoration efforts of the Neelum Jhelum Hydropower Project. The gathering also included the Minister for Water Resources, Musadik Malik, and senior officials from relevant departments such as WAPDA and the Ministry of Water Resources.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the meeting focused on the recent completion of dewatering activities that began in May and concluded successfully in July. These efforts allowed the “International Panel of Experts” to perform an on-site inspection in September and to prepare a report. The report underscored the need for repairs in certain areas of the tunnel floor and suggested improvements in ventilation, lighting, and safety measures for workers.

The Planning Minister underscored the importance of drafting a detailed action plan and urged the involved departments to maintain collaboration with independent experts to ensure the project’s swift and effective completion.
