Jammu: In a significant political shift, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), led by Arvind Kejriwal, has secured its first electoral victory in Jammu and Kashmir, specifically in the Doda district, marking its entry into the region’s political landscape by defeating the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
According to Kashmir Media Service, Mehraj Malik of AAP won the Doda seat with a notable lead. The victory over BJP’s Gajay Singh Rana was by a margin of 4,470 votes. Malik garnered a total of 22,944 votes, establishing a clear win over Rana, who received 18,174 votes. In the race, Khalid Najib Suhrawardy of the National Conference secured third place with 12,975 votes, while other candidates, including Abdul Majid Wani of the Democratic Progressive Azad Party, remained far behind, not surpassing ten thousand votes. The Congress candidate, Sheikh Riaz Ahmed, ended the contest with 4,087 votes.
